Ok ladies, and gentlemen (yes, I'm including trends for guys too; cool right?)
I thought that I would share with you some of the trends out there that make it on my top 10. If you've had the same hair style/color for the last 10 years I'm urging you to try something new. Typically, you will get used to a new style in about 7 days and plus, hair grows back. Nothing to worry about. Let's kick off a new year with a new style!
Ok, ok maybe you're a plain Jane (what's the guy equivalent?) and are alright with that, but it doesn't hurt to look; right?
At any rate, here are my most loved top 10 hair trends:
1. Ombre or Balayage
Yes, I know that this one has been going for awhile but it's so perfect! It gives the hair a sun-kissed look and screams sexy. This technique has been seen on celebrities and models alike, and for good reason. It is a very low maintenance hair color and looks stunningly natural. It can be done very subtly or more boldly. On blonde hair, brown hair, or black hair. There really is no limit to the wash of color.
2. Medium Length Hair
Not quite short and not quite long. It's flirty and sexy combined into one. Long hair this past year made a big appearance, and now its time to head the opposite direction. We've already seen the Victoria's Secret models rock this length but I'm hoping we see cute cuts that hang just at the shoulders or a little below on more ladies this coming year.
3. Short on the Sides and Long on the Top
This hairstyle is business and fashion combined. Not only does it combine clean cut edges but it also allows for messy minimal effort. This haircut is absolutely drool worthy. It shows that the guy has a day job but is also kicked back, and effortlessly fashionable. Naturally wavy hair easily claims this style.
It is true that not everyone can wear bangs, but man we are jealous of those who can. Or maybe that's just me. Bangs say everything in my opinion. Bold. Business. Fun. Seductive. Youth. Sultry eyes. The list goes on.
Thankfully, there are clip in bangs for those of us who are too chicken to chop our hair off! And those cute little numbers look great with ponytails.
5. Long A-Line
We all remember when short a-lines made their appearance but now they are coming back in a long way. This longer version still adds flare to a hairstyle, and when combined with unique coloring, this style is definitely one-of-a-kind. It will elongate your neck and give you true feminine appeal. If you want something bold yet subtle, and different from the masses than you better jump on this band wagon before it takes off.
6. Medium Length for Men
This one is a little on the wild side, and that's hot. Long fringe up front and longer "Mohawk" section halfway down the nape, definitely keeps you interested. Granted, longer styles for men require a little more effort on their part; but it's so worth it!
Although not very realistic in the sense of up-keep (usually sold only in semi permanent colors; meaning it washes out fast), they sure are beautiful on the girls that have them. This hair color is definitely playful and romantic. If you have blonde hair and are under 30 years old you really have to try a pastel color. Life changing. Really.
8. Dye Dip
I know what you're thinking: That's ombre. But no actually, it's not. It's called dye dip and there really is a difference. Dye dips usually involve some sort of unnatural color, but it's bold and it's fun. If you're a die hard Vampire Diaries fan than you probably noticed that the beautiful Elana had something similar in her hair (although I'm tempted to think that those were clip-ins). It's a great way to spice up your ombre.
9. Cool Toned aka Ashy Hair Color
You may have noticed this trending but have not been able to identify it. A lot of celebrities have been moving away from the golden blondes and towards more beige colors with soft violet reflects (cough Kim Kardashian). And this style is brilliant! If you aren't a color expert, something as simple as changing the tone of your hair might not have occurred to you. Since warm tones appear naturally in the hair, this is something we've all seen, but some celebrity stylists have gone outside of the box and these colors are absolutely gorgeous.
10. Long Men's Hair
Being able to run your fingers through a man's hair is plenty appealing (but not if it's as long a yours, right?). This hairstyle is a modern take on the long haired men's styles we saw back in the 90's on stars like Bill Pullman. The sides are a little shorter and directed backwards, while the top is volumized. Modern-day hotties such as Robert Pattinson have brought this style into the lime light.
