Contouring is a big topic and has been for quite awhile. However, I've found that most people are just doing whatever they saw on Pinterest or maybe even copying their favorite Youtuber.
But have you ever followed contouring instructions only to look in the mirror and feel like you look older? Or your face somehow looks longer? Rounder? Or something just seems "off"? Well, placement is everything. And it isn't a one-size-fits all. The reason? You're trying to fit yourself to makeup instead of getting the makeup to fit you. If it doesn't work with the features you have then of course things may not look exactly the way you hoped they would, or more importantly, the way they could.

Makeup is a pretty powerful thing. It can conceal color, add shadows, or light. But the one thing that it doesn't do is correct the texture of your skin. That's up to your skincare routine and the products that you invest in.
And I want to let you in on every professional makeup artist's secret for getting flawless looking foundation: they prep the skin with a mini skincare routine. Now, imagine if you were doing that for yourself on the daily? And before you freak out about having to do "more work" I just want to tell you that the benefit of taking the time to take care of your skin has NOTICEABLE rewards. (And it really doesn't end up being more work.) So while this might seem like something that we should all know about by now, I want to be really sure that you're taking care of your skin. I have been getting a ton (and I mean a ton) of requests about how to find your face shape. And rightly so, because knowing your face shape can be extremely helpful when it comes to understanding where you need to place your blush, bronzer, highlighter, and contouring powder —or even in choosing a hairstyle.
When you know what is going to work for you, you inevitably will feel better about your makeup choices because whatever it is (highlighting, contouring) will be complimentary. But if you don't know what face shape you have how will you know what will work for you? You won't! I get a lot of questions about makeup application (thank you everyone who's taken the time to tell me about your makeup struggles) and one thing that came up for several people was figuring out how to get foundation to look better.
If you've been following me for a while then you already know that I believe in teaching people "the rules" so that the door to endless possibilities is opened — because if you know how to play then you know how to win. So I wanted to give you another ultimate guide but this time you're learning how to get the best-looking foundation. I've broken this down into five different aspects that you need to pay attention to. I'm personally obsessed with eyebrows. Once I discovered how our eyebrows can make us look younger, enhance our eyes, and even help balance facial features—I was hooked!
But we've seen eyebrows go through quite a few trends haven't we? They've been super thin, then back to thick, tamed, untamed, high arch, no arch, bold, light, you name it. We've seen it all. Since I already told you that I have an obsession with eyebrows (because they're kind of like a secret gem in my book), I decided it was time do to an in-depth guide to help you choose the best eyebrow shape for your lovely face. |
